From Amsterdam to Luxembourg: Lost in Translation

INT. TRAIN- NIGHT 2 AM

ALICE (19)is blonde-haired white American

female with her hair in a bun. She wears a bright pink zipped Adidas jacket with blue jeans and Converse shoes, She is sitting with her legs up on the opposite row of seats.

BIRDY (18) is brown-haired white English female

with her hair down and curly. She wears a hemp

necklace, American Eagle blue jeans, and a Bob Marly t-shirt. She sits next to ALICE, asleep.

BIRDY"S rests her head on a window pane. Her legs are

on the seat across from her.

ALICE looks through the window as the train begins to

slow down. It is too dark to see anything but the number of streetlights twinkle in the far distance.

ALICE looks down at her pants pocket. Her left hand

taps her pocket to check its contents She acts discretely. She reaches into her jacket pocket.

Her hand moves things around until her hand

emerges with her chap stick.

ALICE reverts her eyes to her chap stick, uncaps

it, and slowly brings it to her lips. She looks

straight ahead before applying the chapstick.

She mushes her lips together dramatically, and removes her feet from the seats in front of her.

BIRDY is asleep. Her head moves slightly forward as

the train comes to a complete stop. She wakes up and moves her feet down onto the floor as the train door opens.

AFRICAN GHANAIAN (24) female, enters the train. Her hair is in a tight ponytail. She has a book bag. She walks down the corridor and finds a seat on the near Alice and Birdy.

ALICE reaches for her backpack, unzips the

front pocket, rummages through papers, to find her

ticket.

TICKET INSPECTOR (30s) Belgian female enters

and checks the first passenger's ticket.

WHITE MALE (mid-aged) Belgian and filthy, hands the

ticket inspector his ticket.

TICKET INSPECTOR punches a hole and walks down the corridor

ALICE turns her head and looks back slightly

over at the AFRICAN GHANAIAN.

AFRICAN GHANAIAN ticket is in her hand. She sits with in nearly perfect posture. Her forehead is relaxed, has smiling eyes, and her lips are upturned.

ALICE mimics the AFRICAN GHANAIAN's demeanor and facial characteristics.

The train begins to move lurching the passengers slightly forward as it starts to pick up speed.

ALICE looks up slightly to see the ticket inspector. She is nervous but maintains the AFRICAN GHANAIAN facial characteristics and hands her the ticket.

BIRDY reaches into her backpack to grab her ticket,

ALICE watches as the TICKET INSPECTOR punch the hole and hands the ticket back.

BIRDY hands the inspector her ticket and she punches a hole in BIRDY's ticket and hands it back.BIRDY goes back to gazing out the window.

ALICE turns her head again to the right and looks back slightly at the AFRICAN GHANAIAN. She has her hand up and her ticket ready for the ticket inspector.

AFRICAN GHANAIAN lifts her hand, holding her

ticket up slightly above her shoulder, and waits for

TICKET INSPECTOR

TICKET INSPECTOR stops in front of the AFRICAN GHANAIAN and her posture firms. She glares sternly, grabs the ticket, and punches a hole.

TICKET INSPECTOR looks at ALICE as she walks

down the corridor and exits the compartment.

ALICE looks at her ticket. The loudspeakers plays an

announcements in Belgian, French, German,and English. Her facial features change. Her upward smile fades as her lips drop downwards at the corners. Her forehead wrinkles.

ALCIE laughs as the truth of the dire situation dawns on her. She nudges and wakes up BIRDY and, with a nod of her head, indicates to her jacket pocket.

BIRDY, waking slowly, bends over and unzips the front pocket of her backpack.

ALICE reaches into her jacket pocket, grabs the bag discretely, and hands it to BIRDY.

BIRDY places it in her backpack and zips it up returning to her original position, placing her feet up on the seat.

EXT. SMALL TOWN-EVENING

MONTAGE

1974 VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE RUMBLE through a small quiet southern town. It is snowing.

STACY (28), is strawberry blonde with sharp facial features and extremely thin. She is driving the Volkswagen. She wears a white blouse and black leather gloves.

STACY'S POV

Line of fast food restaurants

Old restored brick buildings

Poor rustic neighborhoods

INT. JAMES'S GARAGE - EVENING

Open with QUICK DETAILED SHOTS of the garage interior:

Pool stick his a cue ball

Reel-to-reel player spins

Posters of swimsuit models

Rocket propane heater blasting

Burning cigerattes in ashtray

Greasy hand grabs burning cigeratte

END OF MONTAGE

BACK TO SCENE

DANNY (29)brings a cigarette to his mouth. Danny has a

cigarette pack rolled up under the sleeve of his t-shirt and

he wears dirty/greasy blue jeans. He bends over the car

engine.

Danny has three friends standing around him smoking and

drinking beer. His friends are talking and laughing.

FRIEND ONE (35) is male, overweight, and has a beard.

FRIEND TWO (40) is male, average build and has black curly

hair. FRIEND THREE (30) is male and Danny's brother, JAMES.

Danny bends over the open hood of car and looks at the

engine. His butt crack shows and a cigarette hangs from his

mouth.

FRIEND ONE

What do ya think Dan?

Danny lifts his head, takes the cigarette from his mouth,

grabs his beer, looks over to his friends, and smiles.

EXT. HOME - EVENING

The 1974 VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE SQUEALS to a stop in the

driveway. The VOLKSWAGEN'S DOOR opens, CREAK.

Stacy's red high HEELS swinging out of the car dramatically

onto the lightly snow dusted ground, CRUNCH CRUNCH.

TITLE CARD: MOTHER IS HAPPY

INT. LIVING ROOM - EVENING

The TELEVISION plays the cartoon theme SONG Lamb Chops Play

Along. The DOOR opens with a CREAK. Stacy is wearing a pencil skirt. She walks in and the DOOR shuts, CLICK.

LUCY (4), a girl with curly blonde hair sits with her legs

criss crossed on the floor watching TELEVISION.

sitting here by yourself?

STACY

Hey Lucy. How long have you been

Lucy looks up at Stacy. The edges of Lucy's mouth slightly

turn downward.

LUCY

I know time.

Stacy's hands move to her hips, her mouth slightly curves

upwards, and she looks at Lucy with piercing eyes.

STACY

Oh yeah! And what time is it little girl?

Lucy laughs.

Stacy walks to Lucy and squats down in front of her

STACY

Where is your father?

LUCY

In a car.

STACY

With a butt-crack.

Stacy stands up and walks towards the kitchen.

STACY

Lucy please turn off the television.

LUCY

But it is the song that never ends.

Stacy laughs.

LUCY

Yes Momma.

Lucy bends forward and presses both hands on the ground. She

planks to move to a handstand. Standing, she puts her hands

forward to balance herself. Both legs swing slightly outwards as she walks.

She turns off the TELEVISION.

Lucy looks at her books.

Stacy hangs her purse.

LUCY

Rolling is fastest.

LUCY

Rabbit was thrilled to see his friend Duck.

INT. KITCHEN/DINNING - EVENING

Stacy is at the kitchen sink and her back is to Lucy.

STACY

Read in your head.

LUCY

My head doesn't know that.

INT. KITCHEN - EVENING

Stacy is in the kitchen. She looks at the picture on the

fridge. Stacy smirks.

STACY POV

Lucy's right leg is broken and caste. She wears a small

bucket as a helmet.

BACK TO SCENE

Stacy grabs the milk. She washes her hands at the sink.

INT. KITCHEN/DINING - EVENING

LUCY

Highchair. GO!

LUCY side rolls.

LUCY

(cont'd)

Pow!

She uses hands to flip legs around and forward face.

LUCY (cont'd)

BAM!

Landing in front of her highchair, Lucy reaches and grabs

the highchair bars. She pulls herself up and over the bars

and sits.

Stacy, pours a cup of milk, walks and hands Lucy the cup.

Stacy CLICKS the highchair TRAY in place, and returns to the fridge.

Lucy lifts up her chin, dramatically brings the sippy cup of

milk to her mouth, pulls hards, drinks, and yanks it out of

her mouth in a saluting motion, POP.

LUCY

(cont'd)

YUMMY! Thank you Momma.

STACY

You're welcome.

Stacy removes items from fridge, pours the contents into a

saucepan, and places it on the stove. She turns the KNOB,

CLICK CLICK CLICK. The stove flames.

Lucy watches Stacy.

Stacy opens a can food with an automatic can opener, dumps

the contents into a bowl, and heats it in the microwave.

LUCY'S POV

DAN-BOY (8) white blonde hair worn in spikes, is Lucy's

brother. Looking past the kitchen into the hallway, Dan-boy

pokes his head out of his room briefly, crosses his eyes,

and grins sideways.

BACK TO SCENE

Lucy laughs.

Stacy grabs plates, silverware, napkins, and cups.

LUCY

Dan-boy surprise Lucy.

Stacy divides the food onto the plates.

LUCY POV

Dan-boy,darts out of his room into the middle of the hallway

wearing a superman t-shirt and a red cape. He has a serious

look on his face. He stands in a hero pose.Meri Swain

BACK TO SCENE

Lucy laughs and her eyes are wide.

LUCY

Way to go Dan-boy!

(clapping)

Stacy opens the cabinet under the kitchen sink. Reaching

behind the visible chemicals, she grabs a small unlabeled

condiment shaker and is about to shake the poison on to a

plate.

STACY'S POV

Danny is in the door window and has a cigarette hanging from

his mouth. He turns the door knob and the DOOR CREAKS

slightly open.
